Getting a Passport

Everyone MUST have a passport to travel outside of the United States.

Getting a passport is a pretty simple procedure.  Usually your main Post Office has application forms or you can download the forms directly from the State Department website.  Take these forms to your local passport acceptance office (main Post Office in most cases), along with a passport photo (available at most drug stores or any store that processes photos, sometimes the Post Office itself will have a passport camera), your birth certificate, and 2 checks (one for the Post Office fees and one for the State Department fees).  The process takes approximately 1 month, so don’t dally!  If your trip is coming up sooner, there are ways, for a fee of course, to expedite and hurry along the process. Details are also available on the State Department website.
